Great Article, it really creates a detailed visual. I've never been a big wade fisherman but i'm definitely gonna take a kayak out soon and tie it off and wade fish for some gator trout in Cockroach Bay.
Thanks, Keep 'em comin'!

Anthony,

Because we live in an estuary (Tampa Bay) with clear shallow flats, basically year-round but if we're talking big trout and tailing redfish... the time is now (Dec- mid March).

Don't sit out waiting for spring... go as soon as water temperatures start crawling up a little from the big freeze!

Mike,

As long as the water temp hasn't dropped to acutely... they should still be up on the mud flat. If they do move, it's usually to a deeper edge close by; typically they don't move to far unless there is a big weather system.

Send me a picture when you nab one!

Great article CA. That wall-hanger trout has become my passion, so I take every opportunity I can to keep searching and testing the waters and techniques. To keep me focused and motivated on those cloudy days 'cause I couldn't shake loose from work on the sunny ones, what's the best tactic? Do you still find'em on mud flats that may not warm up as much as those preceding sunny days?

Jimmy,

Daiwa makes a Coastal Series rod (Inshore Wading Special) 761MXS. Many of my clients like this rod action for an all-around tool.

Mullet is my favorite Pro-Cure scent to work everywhere.

Good Luck,

Keep up the great articles C.A.

I do most of my fishing out of a kayak and I'm limited on how much I can actually take with me, with that, what would be an ideal fishing rod to take that will work good for both soft and hard baits. Also, have you notice a preference in which pro-cure scents work best throughout Florida? Thanks,
