Equipment Review: Time to re-power… think E-Tec!

I’ve been running Evinrude E-Tecs for more than six years and what impresses me most is just how little maintenance is required.  I recently took my E-Tec 250HO into my dealer for its first ever service at 465 hours… that’s right 465 hours!  A whopping 165 hours over the recommended 300 hour or 3 year service check.

Being a busy full-time professional guide, shooting Flats Class TV episodes, fulfilling media obligations, and still making time to get the family out for a day on the water… I really can’t afford down time.  When I’m asked at boat shows and seminars what I recommend for re-powering older boats.   I confidently say Evinrude E-Tec… especially if you care about cost of ownership and spending more time on the water!

As an E-Tec owner,  I also enjoy some significant advantages over older two-stroke technology and the ever popular four strokes on the market today.

The obvious benefits E-Tec owners enjoy over the competition are no scheduled dealer maintenance for three years or 300 hours, high torque- a power stroke for every revolution (that’s twice as many as any 4-stroke) and this allows for the quickest throttle response, reliable starting (first time, every time!), and the E-Tec is the cleanest outboard (lowest reportable emissions) of any engine brand!

Here are few other points to consider before re-powering:

Of course that ultra low maintenance inherent with Evinrude E-Tec ownership will save you a ton of money;  when you consider the cost of bringing in your new 4-stroke to the dealer for a 20-hour check, tune-ups, and regular oil changes in the first 3 years of ownership… they charge big money for that stuff!

Also take into account the lighter weight and superior torque of an E-Tec vs. a 4-stroke engine… that means less stress on the transom, less draft, better hole-shot, hull porpoise is a non- issue, and you can achieve plane with more passengers with greater ease.

And when it comes to engine noise… E-Tec is 50% quieter than any other 2-stroke outboard and as quiet as all the best-in-class 4-stroke models.  All you’ll hear is the signature sound of E-Tec!

Another E-Tec advantage over the older 2-stroke technology is the huge savings on fuel (up to 44% less) and oil (at least 50% less) along with general maintenance annually could save you $1,790 a year… those statistics alone will make the decision to re-power with E-Tec a reality!

If buying a new boat isn’t quite in the budget this year, give your old boat some new life by re-powering with best outboard engine technology available today.  Get an Evinrude E-Tec and spend more time on the water and save a boat-load of money in the process… no pun intended.

Keep’em Bent!
